LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
- After an overview of MesoAmerican civilizations, students will be able to analyze and describe the rise, decline, and accomplishments of MesoAmerican civilizations.
- After researching the Aztec, Inca, and Maya civilizations, students will be able to create a museum exhibit of their civilization and compare and contrast each civilization's government, religion, science and technology, and economy.
- After learning about the Oceania navigation and sailing techniques, students will be able to theorize how the islands of the Pacific Ocean became inhabited, and why each culture became distinct from the others.
- After reading about the African trade centers of Medieval Africa, students will be able to identify the effects Africa's geography had on trade and explain the impact trade had on the development of African civilizations.
- After learning about traditional African masks, students will create an African mask and explain the purpose of African masks and rituals.
- After reading about the Ghana, Mali, and Songhai empires, students will be able to describe the rise, decline, and accomplishments of each empire.
- After learning about MesoAmerican and African civilizations, students will be able to create and present a recipe card that highlights significant information about their civilization.
- After an overview of world empires from the 1500s, students will be assigned an empire to research and will create a monument, write a speech, and present their assigned empire to the class.
