Learning Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify reasons for European exploration of the Americas and evaluate how initial impressions between Europeans and non-Europeans influenced their relationship in the New World.
- After reading biographies on European explorers, students will compare and contrast the explorers and explain which explorers share commonalities.
- After researching European explorers during the Age of Discovery, students will create a travel brochure that advertises their explorer's journeys, experiences, and accomplishments.
- Students will be able to describe the Columbian Exchange and analyze how the Columbian Exchange impacted global economics.
- After learning about Conquistadors, students will be able to explain motivations driving exploration, identify areas they conquered, and describe their accomplishments.
- Students will analyze differing perspectives towards Conquistadors and design a commemorative plaque and wanted poster to illustrate these differing perspectives.
- After analyzing sources on Mercantilism, students will evaluate if Mercantilism is beneficial or harmful to a country's economy and present their position to the class.
- After a lesson on slavery in the Americas, students will be able to map the origins of slave trade and discuss the brutality of the Middle Passage and Atlantic Slave Trade
- After analyzing sources on the Atlantic Slave Trade and Middle Passage, students will be able to discuss the brutal impact of the slave trade on untold millions.
